You’ve scheduled your window replacement — great decision. Now, a little preparation on your end helps everything go smoothly on install day. Here’s a simple checklist to get your home ready.
Clear the Area Around Each Window
Our crew needs room to work. Move furniture, lamps, plants, and decorations at least two to three feet away from each window being replaced — both inside and outside. If you have heavy items near the windows, take care of this the day before so you’re not rushing the morning of.
Remove Window Treatments
Take down curtains, blinds, shades, and any hardware attached to the window frame or surrounding trim. This protects your belongings from dust and gives our team unobstructed access to the window.
Take Down Wall Decor
Vibrations from the removal and installation process can knock items off nearby walls. Remove picture frames, mirrors, shelves, and anything fragile within a few feet of the work area.
Protect Your Floors
We lay down drop cloths and take care to keep your home clean, but it’s a good idea to roll up any area rugs near the windows. If you have hardwood or tile floors, a little extra protection never hurts.
Trim Back Exterior Landscaping
If bushes, shrubs, or plants are growing close to the windows being replaced, trim them back to give our crew clear access from the outside. This also helps prevent accidental damage to your landscaping.
Secure Pets
The noise and activity of window installation can stress pets out. Keep dogs and cats in a separate room or area of the house away from the work zones. An open window frame is also an easy escape route — better to play it safe.
Let Your Neighbors Know
If you share a driveway or live in close quarters, a quick heads-up to your neighbors about the work truck and activity is always appreciated.
Plan for Some Noise and Airflow
There will be periods during the installation when openings are exposed to the outside. It’s usually brief, but if it’s a cold day, you may want to adjust your thermostat or close off the rooms being worked on.
Ask Questions Before We Start
If you have any concerns about the process, timeline, or specific windows, install day is a great time to ask. Our crew is happy to walk you through what’s happening at each step.
That’s It
A little prep goes a long way. Most window replacements are completed in a single day, and when we leave, your home will be cleaner, quieter, and more comfortable.
